Fluoroscopy & Cineradiography

Understanding Medical Tests:
FLUOROSCOPY & CINERADIOGRAPHY

Fluoroscopy and cineradiography are diagnostic tools used to examine spinal structures at rest and during:

  • LESIMovement (biomechanics)
  • Exams for musculoskeletal injury, such as whiplash
  • Diagnostic procedures, such as discography or myelography
  • Vertebroplasty treatment of vertebral compression fracture
  • Spinal injection therapies
  • Postoperative evaluation of spinal fusion

This technology combines conventional fluoroscopy, or x-ray, with video-making capabilities.  Images are recorded on tape or digitally and can be replayed in real time, slow motion, or one frame at a time (freeze frame).
Either test can reveal more about a musculoskeletal injury, such as whiplash, than a static or plain x-ray.  Using this technology, a physician can view spinal structures, such as joints and discs, in motion and interacting together.
